NECTAR Music
Music at the NECTAR Centre
Our goal is to provide an all-encompassing music education to students of all ages and to celebrate the art of music-making in the community. At NECTAR Music, our teachers are dedicated individuals who are passionate about music education. We inspire students to develop their creative potential, which in turn, builds confidence as well as team-work and performance skills.
Individual music lessons build skills on specific instruments. Lessons consist of several components such as note-reading, technique, music theory, repertoire, and musicianship. Individual lessons prepare students for recitals and examinations through the Royal Conservatory of Music.
MUSIC GROUP PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN
Group Guitar Lesson (7-12yrs) – Mon Sept 16 - Nov 25 (10wks, class Oct 14)- 6:00-7:00pm
This is a fun group class for children who can play a few chords and are eager to improve their skills on the guitar. For 10 weeks, we will be learning to strum, pick and sing our favourite guitar songs as a group. All you need is a guitar! If you’re not sure that your child is ready, please feel free to contact us.
NEW! NECTAR String Ensemble ( 2 years experience required) – Mon Sept 16 - Nov 25 (10wks, no class Oct 14)- 6:30-7:30pm
The NECTAR String Ensemble teaches students the art of playing music together as part of a group. This class is designed for string players who have taken (at least) two years of individual lessons on their instrument. Ensemble coaching will develop reading, rhythmic and listening proficiency as well as enhance musicianship, teamwork and playing skills. Each program spans 10 weeks three times per year (fall, winter and spring) and is a social outlet to make friends through music-making. Participants will enjoy multiple performance opportunities to showcase their repertoire such as NECTAR Music concerts and community events.
NEW! Group Choir Ensemble (7-13yrs) – Mon Sept 16 - Nov 25 (10wks, no class Oct 14)- 7:15-8:15pm
The NECTAR choir will explore various styles of choral music with an emphasis on part-singing, either 2 or 3-part harmony. Students will begin to interact with the musical score, experience singing in various languages, and learn to listen to one another as they unite their voices towards the shared goal of making music together. This choir is designed for students with little to no choral-singing experience. Basic note-reading skills (normally acquired through individual instrumental lessons) are recommended but not necessary.
