Sing and Drum Together
A fun musical activity that engages participants with dementia and early onset of Alzheimers and their caregivers, designed to improve quality of life and create a new, caring and sharing community. By singing familiar songs, participants create, reminisce and stimulate positive memories and wellbeing.
Drumming and other rhythm instruments are used to engage individual participants in a physical activity that supports them in creating a cohesive group through a common experience.
Caregivers will have a separate opportunity to find support in a trusting, caring and confidential circle and share common challenges and insights.
Benefits include an increase in endorphin activity in the brain, and a better circulation of chi or energy, resulting in stress relief and a fun experience for a more positive mood. Individual self-confidence is also boosted as participants see how they can be individually creative and contribute to the group effort.
No prior knowledge of music or singing, or ability to play percussion hand instruments is needed to participate.
